January 12-16, 2026

 Learning Intentions:

  • I can move in different ways.
  • I can be resilient and keep trying even when things get hard.
  • I can listen to and follow instructions.
  • I can use appropriate safety gear to keep me safe.
This week and into next week, the whole school is participating in our Alien Inline program. The students have enjoyed learning how to rollerblade as well as how to do new tricks! Each day, they learn different ways they can move around the gym in safe ways. Thank you to all parents who have helped support us this week with our in-school field trip. 



Learning Intentions:

  • I can tell you that the mayor is the leader of our municipal government.
  • I can tell you that the premier is the leader of our provincial government.
  • I can tell you that the prime minister is the leader of our federal government. 
  • I can tell you about how some Indigenous groups are governed by chiefs. 
This week, the students explored the concept of leadership through thinking about the different systems around them and their leaders. They discussed the different levels of government along with some of the responsibilities at each level such as how education is provincial. The students ended the week by learning about how Indigenous groups often have a chief to look up to as their leader who makes decisions for the larger group. 




Learning Intentions:

  • I can identify story elements within a story (characters, setting, problem, solution).
  • I can share my opinions through a piece of writing.
  • I can retell a story by sequencing the main events in the correct order. 
  • I can share my ideas through a written or illustrated format. 
This week, the students continued their Snowy Book Studies unit where they looked at new stories and connected topics. One of the big book focuses this week was on Sneezy Snowman. We used this story to remind us about story elements as well as to practice retelling by putting the events in the story in chronological order. In the middle of the week, the students learned about how important opinion writing is and wrote their own entry based on the prompt, "A Snowman Should Not..." 




Supporting your Students at Home:
  • Spelling: Please continue to practice your child's spelling words with them at home. This targeted practice will help them as they develop as readers and writers.
  • Math: This week we are focused on equality. Grade 1s are focused on identifying the difference between equal and not-equal whereas Grade 2s are focused on greater than, less than, equal to as their way to compare numbers and quantities. Please continue to explore these concepts at home by having your child compare two items/numbers.
